Director's Emeritus Awarded to Anson Bank & Trust Board Members John Crawford and John Potter

Monday, August 14th 2003 - Wadesboro, NC - Anson Bank & Trust board members John Crawford and John Potter will be retiring from the board but both have been awarded the title of "Director Emeritus" for their 40 years of service and commitment to the people of Anson county.

Born and raised in Anson County John Crawford served in the Air Force during World War II. Involved in all aspects of Wadesboro life, John has been President of Crawford Motor Co. and Crawford Finance Co. He is an active member of First United Methodist Church where he currently serves as a trustee. Another aspect of John's busy life has been his involvement, as county commissioner and later as town councilman, where he helped to bring the water main from the Pee Dee River to Wadesboro and 4 lanes to highway 74.

John has been actively involved with local banking interests including Anson Savings & Loan, Anson Savings Bank and now Anson Bank & Trust. He also served as a director of First Nation Bank and Southern National Bank. Former Wadesboro man of the year John helped to start the Junior Chamber of Commerce where he served as president.

John Potter grew up in Greene County, North Carolina and later moved to Anson County, after World War II, where he served as an Air Force Captain. In 1949 John became Assistant County Agent, for Anson County. He remained with the Agriculture Extension Service for 31 years until his retirement in 1980. As Agricultural Extension Chairman, in 1975, John received a national award, for his leadership and was cited for his contribution to agricultural diversification in Anson County. John is a Charter member of the Anson Jaycees and has served as a trustee of Anson Community College.

In 1962 he was named a director of Anson Savings & Loan where he served in this capacity for changes to Anson Savings Bank to Anson Bank & Trust, through May 2003. An active participant of First United Methodist Church John has donated over 25 years of service to teaching children, youth and adults. "We can truly say Anson County is a great place to call home!" said John.

By working together, we can continue to enhance the well being of the counties we serve and make a difference in our community.
