Bank of Stanly Making A Difference For 20 Years

Saturday, January 31st 2004 - Albemarle, NC - Bank of Stanly celebrates its 20th year, dedicated to serving the people and dreams of Stanly County. "We're So Proud Of Stanly County, We Named A Bank After It."

"For the people, by the people ... a great nation was founded ... so would be a great bank." With the mergers and acquisitions of the 1970's and early 1980's, Stanly County had lost its community banks ... thus the beginning of a local, hometown bank to be called Bank of Stanly. Sharing the community bank concept and selling shares of stock to capitalize the new bank began with a community meeting on April 26, 1983. Local folks wanted to create a new bank that would operate according to a genuine community philosophy. From the meeting stemmed much work and excitement for making the vision of Bank of Stanly a reality. Its unique mission of enhancing the economic well-being of our fellow man became the story that has been told time and time again.

A group of 164 incorporators, who believed in the importance of a local community bank, gave Bank of Stanly (Proposed) it's beginning. Charter approval was received from the North Carolina Banking Commission September 21, 1983 after selling 424,350 shares and raising total capital of $2.1 million, $350,000 more than bank regulators required.

Bank of Stanly first opened on January 26, 1984. The first few days of operation were dedicated solely to opening accounts for shareholders and hours were from 8:30am until 7:00pm. The ribbon cutting ceremony and official opening was January 31, 1984 at its 167 North Second Street, Albemarle, location. As of December 31, 1984, deposits totaled over $13 million, assets exceeded $15.1 million and loans were over $9.3 million.

Twenty years later, Bank of Stanly has grown from a hometown bank to a hometown financial services company joined by family members from Anson and Cabarrus counties. We're more than just a bank ... we have become a Financial Services Company capable of helping customers with their complete financial objectives, still in the same genuine, caring way we started. Many things have changed, but our founding mission remains the same today ... to care about our neighbor and to make a difference in the lives of our fellow man. Together, our family of customers, associates and shareholders is working everyday to carry out our unique mission.

Roger Dick, Chief Executive Officer and founder, commented, "At this special time in our company's history, it's important that we pause and reflect upon our beginning as we celebrate our 20th birthday. How we've made a difference in people's lives is a measure of our success. We're thankful for the many blessings our company has received and look forward, with great expectations' for future success ... not because we care about how much money we make, but because we care about our neighbors."

By working together, we can continue to enhance the well being of the counties we serve and make a difference in our community.
