of the Year") |
Cindy Beane currently serves as the Vice
Chairman for the Uwharrie Capital Corp Board having served
in various capacities, including Chairman, since 1996. In
addition to her work with Uwharrie Capital Corp she is an
active participant with the Stanly County
Chamber of Commerce where she has served as Vice Chair, to
the Board, and is currently Chairman. Addressing members,
at the recent, 67th Annual Meeting she spoke of her commitment
to Stanly County and in building and enhancing a unified
community.
A graduate of Albemarle Senior High School
and Western Carolina University, Cindy Beane worked in banking
for 17 years and in Public Accounting since 1987. She bought
her Albemarle Practice in 1993 and opened a second office,
in Concord, in 2000. Over the years Cindy has held several
offices in support of her local Church and as Director and
past President of Stanly County Family YMCA. Cindy is a committee
member of the Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation
whose mission is to develop a consensus based vision for
the downtown and managing its implementation.
The 2003 Award Presentation for Stanly County's "Citizen
of the Year" was presented by Roy Hinson, who received
the award, himself, during 2002. Not speaking directly of
Dr. John Murray, as it was still a secret, Mr Hinson addressed
members, describing him as having tireless energy, commitment
and passion. One of Dr. Murray's more noticeable achievements
being the establishment of the "Community Care Clinic",
a clinic designed to serve the healthcare needs of the working
poor.
Dr. John Murray moved to Stanly County
in 1986, after practicing medicine, for ten years, in Jackson
Mississippi where he also served as an assistant professor
of otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi School
of Medicine.
Since his retirement, from medicine, in
1997, Dr. John Murray, has been active with a number of organizations
in Stanly County. He was instrumental in the formation of
the Community Care Clinic which is now in its sixth year
of service. According to Kathy Boyd, who serves on the Clinic’s
Board and worked closely with him to begin the Community
Care Clinic in 1998, “He has a focus and energy about
him that inspires others to get the job done. Without his
persistence and leadership, the Community Care Clinic would
have never been a reality.”
Dr. John Murray is currently chairman of
the Stanly Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, The Community
Care Clinic Board and the Uwharrie Capital Corp Board of
Directors. He has served on the Board's of all three, among
other Boards, for 5 years, 6 years and 8 years respectively.
Roger Dick, Chief Executive Officer of Uwharrie
Capital Corp commented, "He has provided great leadership
for our company and has truly shown his commitment to serving
others. He tirelessly gives of his time and efforts to get
the job done. He has earned the respect of all our Directors
and associates because of the way he cares and the genuine
manner he serves. We often thank him for retiring from his
medical practice so he could 'work' with us ... a community
servant indeed. I think of his work with us as an extension
of his career in medicine. Now he is helping heal an ailing
community that has historically been financially challenged
and is currently in a state of economic transitioning. We
extend our appreciation and congratulations to him."
By working together, we can continue
to enhance the well being of the counties we serve
and make a difference in our community.
