Bank of Stanly Honors Teacher of the Year and Outstanding
Business
Monday, May 4th 2004 - Albemarle, NC - Bank
of Stanly honored Stanly County’s Teacher of
the Year John Thompson, Jr. recently at the company’s
Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Mr. Thompson teaches business
classes at West Stanly High School.
“Teachers have a special mission
of helping mold and encourage our children to dream big and
realize those dreams,” said Mark Mabry, Bank of Stanly’s
Board of Directors’ Chair, who recognized Mr. Thompson. “John
Thompson does this and more. His peers say he has a unique
style of teaching and relates well to students, is knowledgeable
and professional, goes the extra mile, and has high expectations
of his students and of himself. It is my distinct honor to
recognize Stanly County’s Teacher of the Year John
Thompson, recognition he so deserves for the impact he is
having on our children and our future.”
Bank of Stanly also recognized Custom Doors,
Inc. of Albemarle as its 2004 Outstanding Business.
“Custom Doors is a third-generation
business owned and operated by P. J., Mike and Mitch Laton
and has been in business for 52 years,” said Bill Lawhon,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Stanly. “Brothers
P. J. and Paul Laton started the business as a cabinet and
furniture business. They placed furniture in the first dormitory
at the former Pfeiffer College, now known as Pfeiffer University.

are making a difference in the community by providing good
jobs for 12 people, and by helping to create community wealth

desk clock frame which featured an original piece of art
depicting Mr. Thompson’s area of teaching and Messrs.
Laton’s line of business.
