Pat Horton Joins Cabarrus Bank & Trust as Chief Executive Officer

Wednesday, June 2nd 2004 - Concord, NC - Patricia K. Horton, formerly with First Charter Bank in Charlotte, joins the executive management team of Cabarrus Bank & Trust as Chief Executive Officer. The Board of Directors announced that the selection of Ms. Horton to the CEO position would be effective June 14, 2004. Her office will be located in Cabarrus Bank & Trust’s Concord branch at 25 Palaside Drive.

Alex Rankin, Chairman of the Board, stated, “Two years ago we declared our commitment to provide a true community banking alternative for Cabarrus County. Today we proudly announce that Pat Horton, a life-long resident of Cabarrus, has agreed to direct our team in this grassroots banking movement. With more than 30 years of banking expertise Pat personifies the community banking spirit. She truly shares our vision - Making A Difference - for the people, by the people. Our bank and our community will continue to prosper under her leadership.”

In her new position, Ms. Horton will assume responsibility for the operation and management of the bank’s employees and facilities in Cabarrus County. In addition, she will interface between the Board of Directors, the organization, and the community. Commenting on her new role, Ms. Horton said, “I am thrilled to be back in a community banking environment with an organization dedicated to the success of Cabarrus County residents and businesses. I am looking forward to devoting my time and energy exclusively to the financial and civic needs of hometown friends and neighbors.”

President of Cabarrus Bank & Trust, Sanjay Mistry, said, “Pat is one of the most respected and talented bankers in the Carolinas. Her solution-oriented style and in-depth knowledge of the local market make her a perfect fit for the hometown bank.”

Ms. Horton’s banking career with First Charter spanned three decades. She served most recently as Retail Bank Manager and as Senior Market Financial Consultant. She attended Central Cabarrus High School and Central Piedmont Community College. Additionally, she completed a four-year Advanced Management Program from the North Carolina School of Banking in Chapel Hill. She is past President of Financial Women International and was voted Woman of the Year by that organization. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the YMCA and is active in several local civic and charitable organizations including Southwest Cabarrus Rotary Club, NorthEast Medical Center Foundation, Cabarrus Arts Council, and Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the Harrisburg United Methodist Church and past Trustee. Ms. Horton has two children and three grandchildren. She and her husband, Joe, President of Piedmont Asphalt Paving Company, reside in Harrisburg.
