Brendan Duffey Joins Uwharrie Capital Corp
As Executive Vice President / Chief Operating Officer
Tuesday,
July 13th 2004 - Albemarle, NC - Cindy Beane, Chairwoman
of the Uwharrie
Capital Corp Board of Directors, is pleased to announce
that Brendan Duffey, a highly experienced executive, has
joined the company as Executive Vice President and Chief
Operating Officer. “He brings vast experience and knowledge
to our company. His background over the past 25 years includes
executive level management and consulting for some of the
largest companies in the world; however, he is no stranger
to our company. He has served as a consultant with us at
various times throughout the past 15 years.”
Mr. Duffey’s experience is concentrated
in financial services, sales/marketing, information technology,
operations, strategic planning, organizational development
and new markets/products initiatives. Roger Dick, Chief Executive
Officer of Uwharrie Capital Corp commented, “Brendan’s
role will encompass many of these same functions within Uwharrie
Capital Corp and its subsidiary banks and brokerage company.
His long-standing relationship with our company as a financial
services consultant has proven to be very beneficial, and
we’re fortunate to now have him as a member of our
corporate family as we continue to grow and create shareholder
value.”
Brendan received his Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Economics from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
and his Masters of Business Administration degree from Rutgers
University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Having served as
President and Chief Executive Officer of First National Bank
in Cape Canaveral, Florida, during 1974 to 1979, he was the
youngest bank president in United States history. Additionally,
he held executive management positions with numerous banks
in Texas for 19 years. He was Chief Executive Officer and
Managing General Partner of Momentum Management Associates
in Houston, Texas, a consulting and business intelligence
outsourcing company concentrating in U.S. financial services
industry that he started in 1989. Since 1998, he was employed
with Global Knowledge Network, Inc., the largest independent
Information Technology (IT) training company in the world,
located in Cary, NC, as Vice President and General Manager.
On joining the Uwharrie Capital Corp family,
Brendan commented, “Having worked with the associates
of Bank of Stanly and Uwharrie Capital Corp in various consulting
roles for 15 years, I’m very familiar with the company
and its special community-minded mission. After being out
of the financial services business for six years, I was anxious
to return to this business. Becoming a team member of Uwharrie
Capital Corp makes it even more exciting for me. I’ve
watched the company develop and grow from infancy. It’s
evident that the community has greatly supported the hometown
bank concept that has now been shared with neighbors of Anson
and Cabarrus counties. The foundation of strong core values
and corporate culture that puts people first - - before profits
- - has proven well for the success of this company. I look
forward to participating in its future development and service
to the communities it serves.”
