Bank of Stanly Supports English as Second Language (ESL)
Program
Friday
September 10th 2004 - Albemarle, NC - Bank
of Stanly recently assisted the English as Second Language
(ESL) program offered by First Lutheran Church of Albemarle
by providing various teaching materials about money and
banking to the group of Central Elementary School students
participating in the after-school program.
The staff of volunteers, led by Debbie Pressley, began tutoring
the students in March of 2003, assisting with language
development and homework. Ms. Pressley's goal is for each
student to master the English language. During
the summer, seventeen children enjoyed numerous activities
and programs in the community.
Students enjoyed a tour of the bank's Main Office, led by associate
Lisa Hartsell, and learned about how the bank helps our
community. Various other bank associates shared time with
the students as they explained their jobs.
