Shinning Stars - 2005 Relay For Life
Friday, May 6th 2005 - Albemarle, NC - Associates, directors
and their families represented Bank
of Stanly and Strategic
Investment Group as corporate and team sponsors at
this year's American Cancer Society Relay for Life community
event.
Hosted by Stanly Community College, 20-30 teams set up
camp around the school's track. Walking started at 7pm
Friday and continued into the early hours of Saturday morning.
The event boasted live music, hand crafted products and
plenty of food and entertainment to keep everyone going.
This year over $107,000 was raised for cancer research,
up from $80,000 in 2004.

"A big thank you to everyone who walked, participated
as a team member or contributed to this years Relay For
Life." said Susan Gibson, Vice President, Human Resources
at Uwharrie
Capital Corp. "This has truly been a team effort
and a big step towards making a difference."
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide,
community based voluntary health organization. With chartered
divisions throughout the country and over 3,400 local offices,
the ACS is committed to fighting cancer through balanced
programs of research, education, patient service, advocacy,
and rehabilitation. The goal of the ACS is to prevent cancer,
save lives, and diminish suffering from cancer.

and make a difference in our community.
