Bank of Stanly Honors Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Business

Wednesday, May 2nd 2006 - Albemarle, NC - Bank of Stanly honored Stanly County’s Teacher of the Year Anne Watson recently at the company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Mrs. Watson teaches Elementary Education at Richfield Elementary School.

Teachers have a special mission of helping mold and encourage our children to be what they can be, to dream big dreams and realize those dreams. “Anne's peers say she is passionate about educating the whole child and is a strong advocate for each childs success." said Mark Mabry, Bank of Stanly’s Board of Directors’ Chair, who recognized Mrs. Watson.

"She cares deeply for each one and they know this. In her class, her students are up, moving around, using technology and inquiry based learning to master the skills needed for success not only on tests, but in life as well. It is my distinct honor to recognize Stanly County’s Teacher of the Year Anne Watson, recognition she so deserves for the impact she is having on our children and our future.”

Bank of Stanly also recognized J.T. Russell & Sons, Inc. of Albemarle as its 2006 Outstanding Business.

“J.T. Russell & Sons, Inc. is a third-generation business and has been in business since 1929.” said Bill Lawhon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Stanly. “The business began with plowing and cutting wheat and soon grew into a business of grading and paving. To expand the business further, they added water and utilities as well as two asphalt plants in the area. They are making a difference in the community by providing good jobs for 65 people, and by helping to create community wealth right here at home. It is our pleasure to recognize J.T. Russell & Sons, Inc., our 2006 Stanly County Outstanding Business.”

Bank of Stanly presented Mrs. Watson a monetary gift and a desk clock frame which featured an original piece of art depicting Mrs. Watson’s area of teaching. J. T. Russell & Sons Inc. were presented a grandfather wall clock.
