Uwharrie Capital Corp Board Member Recognized
for His NASCAR Marketing Success
Tuesday, July 11th 2006 - Charlotte,
NC - NASCAR team owner and Uwharrie
Capital Corp board member
Tad Geschickter was recently featured in a Charlotte Observer
article for his innovative marketing strategies designed
to help boost sponsor product sales through racing-themed
retail promotions. Geschickter, president and chief executive
of Wood Brothers/JTG Racing and a former consumer products
manager with Proctor & Gamble, uses his extensive contacts
in the grocery industry and his background in merchandising
to market his sponsors’ products beyond just putting
their logos on cars and drivers.
As proof, Andrew Giangola, NASCAR’s
director of business communications, notes Geschickter and
his staff develop “the
best retail marketing programs in the NASCAR Busch Series.” He
has even convinced companies who have turned down many previous
sponsorship pitches to sponsor his race teams by focusing
on return on investment instead of simply promoting brand
awareness. To do this, Wood Brothers/JTG Racing’s dedicated
marketing staff conceives and develops product promotions
from cardboard cutouts to coupons. A field staff then actively
promotes these items through efforts such as in-store product
demonstrations, tasting's, and giveaways. The results speak
for themselves. Geschickter’s innovative approach to
NASCAR marketing has helped companies such as Kingsford charcoal
almost double its market share and Little Debbie snack foods
better its product placement in stores.
This year, Wood Brothers/JTG Racing, whose
marketing arm is expected to gross over $7.5 million in revenues,
fields one Nextel Cup car driven by Ken Schrader, two Busch
Series cars, and two Craftsman Truck Series teams. The company’s
primary sponsors include Armor All, Clorox, Edy’s Dibs,
Kingsford, Little Debbie, Motorcraft, State Fair Corn Dogs,
Team Australia, and the US Air Force, plus many more associate
sponsors.
